Banknotes of all
denominations are printed on special white, non- fluorescent paper.
The Trident depiction is a watermark on the banknotes with face-value 1,
2, 5, 10, 20 grivnas, issued in 1992. Obverse On the banknote obverse there are depicted: portraits of some outstanding persons in the history and literature of Ukraine, inscriptions "UKRAINE" or "UKRAINE"and "NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE", face value of banknotes in letters and figures and the year of issue. Ornaments and rosettes in colour printing are a complement of the design. The portraits, inscriptions and certain decorative elements are made with relief printing. Reverse On the banknote reverse there are depicted historical and architectural monuments of Ukraine, with the inscription "NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE" above them. The banknote face value is printed in letters and figures. Rosettes, ornaments and ribbons in colour printing are a complement of the design. The design and protective elements of banknotes of 2001 year of issue
are the same as of banknotes of 1995, except for the following changes:
the
"Bank Governor" inscription on the banknote obverse is changed for the
"Governor" and together with the inscription it is transferred from the lower to
the upper part of the banknote and is located beneath the "National Bank of
Ukraine" inscription to the left from the word "Ukraine".
On the banknote
reverse the inscription "1995" is changed for "2001" , the year of banknote
issue.

The banknote is printed on special white paper, which does not fluoresce in
ultra-violet rays and shows the multi colour watermark of Lesiya Ukrainka's
portrait.
Within the paper mass, about 15 mm left from banknote centre there
is a cross protective tape with microtext.The banknote size is 133 È 66 mm.
On the banknote obverse on its right side there is a portrait of Lesiya
Ukrainka printed in grey-brown colour on the background of blue ornamental
pattern, formed by lines and "îâõ" microtext.
In the upper part there
printed in blue colour an inscription: õëòá¯îá îáã²ïîáìøîéê âáîë õëòá¯îé".
Beneath ornamental pattern and õëòá¯îá inscription there is a thin line formed
by the microtext of õëòá¯îá inscription.
In the lower part printed in
blue and grey - brown colours penetrating one another without displacement of
lines there is the banknote's face value" ä÷²óô² çòé÷åîø" located upon a
conventionalized line. Above the tape there is an inscription: çÏÌÏ×Á ðÒÁ×̳ÎÎ
ÂÁÎËÕ (Bank Governor) and the Governor's signature. At the upper corners there
is a digital depiction of the banknote face value (to the left - in ornamental
blue rosette and to the right - in blue print). At the banknote left low corner
there are marks for the blinds: two vertical parallel lines, made in relief
print.
On the banknote obverse there is a banknote serial number printed
horizontally: in black - to the left and in red - to the right.
The design of
the banknote obverse is complemented with ornamental patterns, rosettes and
protective grids executed in multicolour print with gradual change of colours.
At the right low corner there is a rosette made in silvery print, upon which a
latent digital designation of the banknote face value. In the middle of the
banknote reverse there is a depiction of the Entrance Tower of Lutsk Castle
printed in dark-brown colours. Above the picture on a conventionalized ribbon
there is a dark-brown inscription: îáã²ïîáìøîéê âáîë õëòá¯îé.
Beneath the
picture upon a conventionalized ribbon with a protective grid there is the
banknote face value printed in letters: ä÷²óô² çòé÷åîø.
At the upper
corners in ornamental blue rosettes and at the lower corners in blue print there
is a digital depiction of the banknote face value: 200.
The design of the
banknote reverse is complemented with ornamental patterns, rosettes and
protective grids executed in multicolour print with gradual change of
colours.
Watermark on the banknotes of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 Grivna denomination (1992) is a light TRIDENT depiction, made within the internal paper structure. It is replicated throughout the banknote's plane and is visible against the light; on the banknotes, issued later there is a depiction of a portrait, made within the internal paper structure, copying the one on the banknote obverse.
Protective thread on the banknotes of
1(1995), 2 (1995) and 5 (1997) Grivna denominations is vertically placed
(between the watermark and the portrait) 1,3 mm-wide polymeric metal thread with
a coded denomination, which is seen against the light as a dark line with
transparent inscription "1 GRIVNA", "2 GRIVNAS", "5 GRIVNAS" which is
replicated;
- on the banknotes of 1 (1994), 5 (1994), 10 (1994), 50 and 100
GRIVNA denominations is vertical 1 mm-wide polymeric thread seen against
the light. There is a dark-coloured "UKRAINE" inscription, which is replicated.
It can be read with magnifying glass.
-on the banknotes of 20 Grivna
denomination (1995) is vertical metal "window" thread, placed between the
watermark and the portrait. On the banknote obverse it is periodically (6 time)
repeated on the banknote surface. This thread fragment is visible, it looks like
a shining dotted line. Against the light the whole thread looks like an
unbroken dark line crossing the banknote.
Relief elements - print elements on banknotes of 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995), 50 and 100 Grivna denominations, projecting over the paper surface, which can be felt by touch.
Coded latent picture is a latent digital denomination depiction on the banknote of 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995 ), 50 and 100 Grivna denominations, visible against the light at the angle of 45 degrees (rectangular ornament on the right from the portrait) and a latent TRIDENT depiction (digital denomination depiction at the top corners of obverse of the banknotes of 2-20 Grivna denominations 1992).
Combined pattern is a pattern, located at one side of the banknote obverse and reverse, all elements of which concur with one another by looking at a banknote against the light (ornament on the left side).
Orlov print (off-set and intaglio) is
clean-cut conversion of one colour into another without breaking or mixing of
picture lines
(portrait, inscriptions, ribbons, ornaments).
Iridescent print is gradual conversion of one colour of the protective grid, made with unbroken lines into another (protective grids and ornaments on the banknote sides).
Antiscaner grid is the combination of thin lines positioned at various angles, which form protective grids on a copy in case of scanning or copying.
Microtext is an inscription of continuously replicated word UKRAINE and NBU's abreviation, which can be read with a magnifying glass.
Symbol for the blind is a relief element, located at the lower obverse corner of the banknote with the face value of 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995), 50 and 100 Grivnas, which shows the banknote face value and can be felt by touch.
Visible protective fibres are blue 6 mm- long fibres, chaotically placed within the paper fabric and upon the banknote obverse and reverse (face value of 1-20 Grivnas of 1992), blue and red fibres - for 1, 2, 5 Grivnas denomination (1994-1997).
Unvisible protective
fibres are fibres, chaotically placed within the paper fabric and
upon the banknote obverse and reverse:
- 6 mm-long (with face value of
1-20 Grivnas, 1992), fluorescent with green light;
- 4 mm-long (with
face value of 1 (1994, 1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995), 50
and 100 Grivnas fluorescent in UV-rays with yellow and light blue light
and-with face value of 1 (1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1997) Grivnas, fluorescent
in UV-rays with blue and green light.
Fluorescent number is the banknote number, printed in relief horizontally with black ink (face value of 1 - 20 Grivnas,1992) and with red ink (face value of 1 (1994, 1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995) Grivnas) and printed vertically (face value of 50 and 100 Grivnas). This number is fluorescent in UV-rays with green light (face value of 1-20 Grivnas,1992) and light-red light (face value of 1 (1994, 1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995), 50 and 100 Grivnas).
Magnetic number - is the banknote magnetic number and series printed in relief horizontally in one row with black ink (face value of 1 (1994, 1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995), 50 and 100 Grivnas).
Latent face value is the face value printed with unvisible ink in the middle of banknote obverse, excluding banknote with face value of 1 (1994, 1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995) Grivnas, which is fluorescent in UV-rays with green light.
Fluorescent print is design elements of the banknote obverse and reverse and a coded picture (50 and 100 Grivnas), fluorescing in UV-rays with yellow, green or yellow and green light (depending on the face value).
