A new article enitled Field-induced transitions between multilayer phases of polar smectic liquid crystals has appeared in Physical Review E, Rapid Communications.

Professor Helen Gleeson and Graduate Research Student Louise Johnson of the University of Manchester are visiting the Laboratory. The visit is a part of the work programme of the joint RFBR-Royal Society project Smectic structures with multilayer periodicities.

The 11th International Symposium on Ferroic Domains and Micro- to Nanoscopic Structure and the 11th Russia/CIS/Baltic/Japan Symposium on Ferroelectricity is scheduled August 20 - 24, 2012, Ekaterinburg, in the very middle of Russia. December 20-23 Igor Ilchishin of Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences, Ukraine, has been visiting Chernogolovka in the framework of the joint Russian-Ukrainian project Studies of optical edge and defect modes and low threshold lasing in chiral liquid crystals.
