Coatings can
be deposited onto various materials: ceramics, metals, and plastics.
Coatings are used for
decoration purposes, for increasing corrosion resistance of
materials, or for improving the reflection ability of various
reflectors. For example, deposition of gold onto large
overall-dimensions products is more efficient than using gold
tinsels. A widely used coating is titanium nitride. Titanium nitride
is a high-quality corrosion-resistant material resembling gold in
appearance It can be produced with different reflecting ability from
10 to 100%. Titanium nitride possesses unique properties which
differentiate it from other coatings in immitation gold. It can be
used at higher temperatures and under the conditions where strong
corrosion resistance and durability are necessary, e.g., medical
instruments, dentures, parts of mechanisms and machines. Coatings on
glass, metallic, and plastic reflectors substantially increase their
reflection ability.
Coatings most
frequently used are titanium nitride, diamond-like, low-emission,
titanium, stainless steel, niobium, molybdenum, etc.
