The laboratory was founded in 1988 by Prof. Dr. Valery T. Dolgopolov, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The scientific interests of the laboratory staff are mostly focused on the investigation of transport properties of low-dimensional structures in a range from room temperature to ultra-low temperatures (30 mK), including studies in quantizing magnetic fields (up to 16 T). The research areas of the laboratory include quantum wells, heterojunctions, and hybrid structures based on superconducting and magnetic materials. A separate research direction is the realization of a low-dimensional system as a surface state in a topological insulator or a semimetal.
